The PetroCONNECT fuel retail industry readiness programme provides individuals wishing to enter the sector with practical insights on what it takes to successfully operate a service station in South Africa.
The programme provides skills-based training material, assessments and a practical on-site experiential learning approach to equip candidates with an in-depth understanding of what it takes to effectively run a fuel retail business.
The programme helps prepare candidates with the practical knowledge and know-how they need to operate a highly successful service station in South Africa.
Candidates will walk away with the practical skills they need to make an informed decisions on their journey as a service station owner, as well as improved business acumen.
Candidates undergo a two-week hybrid programme (practical on-site & classroom / online based training), focusing on equipping them with insights on the day-to-day running of a service station. The candidates assume the roles of Petrol Attendant, Cashier, Merchandiser, Back Office Administrator and ultimately overall management of the business, overseen by trainers and the PetroCONNECT Academy course facilitators. At the end of two weeks, candidates are required to present business plans and cashflows based on scenario exercise given to them.
The main objective with our Readiness Programme offering is to equip those who are interested in entering the fuel retail industry with an understanding of the many practical aspects and realities involved in managing a service station of any size. Our vision is to deliver a pool of pre-vetted, competent and capable individuals into the dealer network, thereby ensuring the industry’s sustainability. The course is not aimed at replacing a much more in-depth oil company specific training, which is only offered once the applicant has been appointed as franchisee, it instead seeks to ensure that the candidate obtains enough information about the industry they intend pursuing, prior to substantial investments being made.
Do you have the following? South African citizenship, English proficiency (spoken and written), 3 year post matric qualification or equivalent , clear criminal and credit record, minimum R750 000 unencumbered capital, computer literacy, laptop and internet connectivity. Basic understanding of accounting and excel is an added advantage
